Outfit of the Day: Autumnal Simplicity

Whenever I take a walk outside my house, I look down and admire the mini pumpkins that are on my porch. Their petite sizes always make me smile. I love looking at the trees and at the way they glisten in the sunlight. Their leaves turning bright and beautiful ombre colors, marking that it is time for fall.

This weekend I decided to cherish those warm moments and wear this beautiful flowered dress. I paired it with my Bobbie Flat Ankle Boot by Dolce Vita and a pair of white and gold earrings to compliment the colors on the dress.

Welcome fall, you are here at last!

Peace, Love, & Junk!

Over the weekend, I decided to leave the city for a bit and venture out west toward rural Nebraska for a music and antique festival called, Junkstock. It's a 3-day event that happens every year on the fields of an old Dairy farm. Vendors from different parts bring wondrous antiques, vintage finds, and re-purposed items; some which even date back when my grandparents were young!

As I paid the $5 entrance fee, I saw that there were numerous booths to visit and things to look at that I just had to pick a booth and see what nifty things I could find.

The Barn & Vendors

Metal Daisies

Vintage License Plates

At one of the booths, they had a table that had a giant sign that said "Speed Zone", two bowling pins, a mini tool organizer, and a silver tray filled with little squared letters. As a child at heart I had to play with the block letters and spell my name!

TA-DAH!

In the middle of the grassy field near the booth I was in I found a live band performing. What was cool about it was that a new band would perform at every hour and you would get a chance to experience new kinds of music like blues, acoustic/folk, and even bluegrass. I really enjoyed listening to the sounds of banjos and guitars, it was refreshing.

As I continued to walk and play "I SPY" at every booth that I visited, I found a barn that had a giant peace sign, formed of colorful tires! A perfect picture moment to remember.

Shoes- Macy's

Later on in the day...

I had a really great time at Junkstock and I hope to come back next year. I like the fact that it's 3-days and not just one, since there is so much to look at and little knick-knacks to find. Next time I'll be sure to bring a bigger bag and more money to spend cause you never know what you're gonna go home with!

Weekend Adventure to Minnesota Part 1

This weekend my boyfriend and I decided to get out of Omaha for a little bit and venture out to Minnesota; home of the Minnesota Vikings and known for its largest city, Minneapolis! A few things I was looking forward to seeing in this trips was the Mall of America, art around the city, and just things that we had never seen before.

Look here's a photo of us looking pretty excited!!

Our first stop was the Mall of America. When we first got to the parking lot I couldn't believe how big it was, I felt as if we were going to Disneyland cause of the traffic and the rows of cars waiting to find parking. Alright, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but, it was pretty big. As we entered, I saw people sitting down with their bags on the floor and their faces looking tired as if they had been walking for hours.  Once we got to the center of the mall, I was speechless. Four stories filled with 520 stores, 50 restaurants and attractions, and the nation's largest indoor theme park! Also did I mention that there's no sales tax on clothes or shoes! Crazy right!

There are so many things to look at, where do you start!

Welcome to the jungle, I mean mall!

When you walk to the south end of the mall, towards the south food court you are able to see this giant Transformer figure made out of Legos. It was a sight to see! I wonder how many Legos it took to make this and the other creations around it.

Giant Transformer made out of Legos!

The indoor amusement park was just breathe-taking, I'm still wondering how they fit that all in one mall!

Indoor Amusement Park & Nickelodeon Universe

After we made our rounds around the mall, I spotted this cute vintage boutique called Tatyana, a retro inspired dress shop. I had to go inside and take a look. And of course try on some clothes!

*Those high-waist pants would look great with some wedges and a red belt.
Pants: Carpenter Capri- $134.00
Blouse: Tie-N-Go Flower- $45.00

Dress: Windward- $132.00

They even have men's clothes!

One of the girls there had on this lovely cherry dress!

She's wearing: Wild Berries dress- *On sale for $84.00

After our mini detour at Tatyana's we continued to walk around and see what other things this mall didn't have. My boyfriend had been wanting to get some nice dress shoes and a minimalist wallet, so we found a store called Johnston & Murphy. This store is known for their craftsmanship in shoes, classic style clothes for men and women, and leather goods such as wallets & messenger bags. We met this delightful gentleman who helped us out and posed for me for a photo! I gotta say, I really like his mustache!

Briefcase/messenger bag: Vintage Collection Flapover Briefcase- $395.00

After 4.5 hours of walking, going on roller coasters, seeing the different stores, and meeting cool people, we decided to leave. What I liked about the mall was that there are different themes on each floor that you go on. At one point we saw a giant chandelier dangling. One of the things I should of brought with me was my walking shoes, because you can walk for hours and not even realize where the time has gone. Then again time flies when you're having fun right!

More to come on part 2 of my weekend in Minnesota!

Happy Blogging!

For the Luv of Vintage: Valentine's Day Edition

Artist: Gil Elvgren

Roses are red, violets are blue, remember this poem? I do too!!

Whenever I think of Valentine's Day I always get flashbacks of being back in elementary school decorating brown paper bags with markers and stickers and exchanging little Valentine grams with classmates. How I miss those days!

One of my favorite things about this lovey dovey holiday is getting dressed to the nines. Whether you're wearing a 1950's dress or modeling a sexy boudoir piece for your significant other, you can never go wrong with a little taste of vintage to spur up the night. Here are a few outfits that will take his breathe away.

*Photos are not mine.

Last but not least don't forget to check out Besame Cosmetics for their one of a kind vintage inspired makeup!

A Hat-tastic Kind of Day!

(Childhood book: Caps for Sale)
As some of you know, today is National Hat Day!
It's a celebration commemorating all hats everywhere. Whether you wear a fedora, a top hat, or even a shower cap, join the fun and show off your style!

In the spirit of today's holiday, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite hats that I recently bought at Goorin Bros.

Wool Knit Beret
Whenever I think of a beret I always think about a French painter or a character from 007. It's a unique hat because of the way its shaped and made. You can style it in different ways and you won't even need to buy another hat. How great is that?

Here's how I wear my beret.

I call this one, "The Pancake", because of the way it plops on top of your head. If you don't want it flat on top, you can always tilt the hat to create more of a statement for your outfit.
I call this one, "The Side Snug", because of the way it snugs your hair to the side. Once you put the beret on your head you can adjust it the left or right, whichever you prefer and pull up the top portion to add more structure in your hat instead of it looking flat.

I call this one, "Rasta Style" because of the way its pushed back. It has complete support of your hair even if its in a bun.

What's your favorite hat?

If you are interested in where I got my beret check out the awesome hat-makers of Goorin Bros. They have an eclectic array of hats that are a fit for everyone, check them out.
