For the LUV of Vintage FRIDAYS!!

Sooo, its almost Halloween time but you don't know what you want to dress up as. I find that its way cheaper to make your own outfit or go to a second-hand store rather than going to a regular Halloween store. One, because you save money and two, you can show your creative skills and make your outfit look unique. Here are some stores that you can check out, if you are in the Omaha area.

Flying Worm Vintage shop always has some awesome dresses, shirts, shoes, etc. If you're looking into being a flapper or just going way back in time, definitely check this place out. There are two locations:

Old Market                                                           Westroads Mall
1125 Jackson St. Omaha, NE 68102          10000 California Street Omaha, NE
Monday-Thursday | 11am / 9pm                            Monday-Saturday | 10am / 9pm
Friday | 11am / 10pm                                              Sunday | 11am / 6pm
Saturday | 10am / 10pm
Sunday | 10am / 6pm

They'll be having a Halloween event tonight at their Old Market location!! So don't miss out!!

If you're into clothes hunting, check out the Goodwill for great deals and great finds. I found this really cute navy blue dress and a blue and white stretchy belt with an anchor, for under $20, how great is that!!!

For a trendier look, visit Paperdoll Boutique. Located in Benson, Paperdoll is a collection of vintage and vintage-inspired clothing that's up to your liking. Each piece is handpicked and one of a kind.  They have clothes for men and women, so make it a date and visit Paperdoll.
    Address:

    Omaha, NE 68104

Last but not least, there is Scout Dry Goods & Trade. Located in the Historic Dundee area of Omaha, they have clothes that vary from vintage, modern, to the trendiest of clothes. This store reminds me of Buffalo Exchange, because of the eclectic variety of clothes and you can re-sell your clothes! They also have $1 Sundays which they $1 sales from 11am-7pm. You never know what you'll find!!

Address:
5019 Underwood

My Style Mondays: Fall Fashion

It's that time again, when the leaves turn beautiful colors and the weather is a bit nippy. Time to bring out the scarves and coats as FALL HAS ARRIVED! During the fall season, it feels like fashion changes it course, like we tend to layer more since it gets chilly and you wanna stay warm. Some colors that we may see when we think of fall are browns, greens, base and warm colors .

Today, I decided to look in my closet and find something suitable for the weather and for the work space. Some of the items I'm wearing are:
  • Pashmina scarf
  • Orange/brown high rise pants- Forever 21
  • White & black buttoned blouse- Forever 21
  • Black cardigan- Thrift store
  • Red Revlon Lipstick- CVS
  • Pearl necklace-Forever 21
  • Blue Belt- Target
  • Brown Booties- Macy's

On the Streets: LA-based artist Alexandra Grant

Artist of the Week

Last week, I visited the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Downtown Omaha. Every month they have special art talks, where they invite an artist and they share their work and experiences with guests. One of the artist that I  got to meet was, Alexandra Grant

An LA native, Alexandra Grant has made a significance in the world of artists by using a network of words and language to express herself in paintings, drawings, or even sculptures.

One of the things that caught my attention was the GrantLOVE Project which was started in 2008. The GrantLOVE Project is artist-owned and operated project that sells an produces original artwork by artists  to raise support for the art community and art non-profits. As a way to create a movement, the GrantLOVE symbol has become a known emblem for change and philanthropy.

One of her bigger projects that she introduced was Interior Forest/Foret Interieure. Interior forest was a compilation of public drawing sessions, reading groups, art collaborations and an instillation. This was all produced based off Helene Cixous book, Philippines. The forest representing a shared spaced as described in the book and drifting between a real and imagined world. As a two-city exhibition, showcasing in Paris and in California, Grant would bring artists and people together and expand their mind based on the text. There would be post-it notes with keywords on the wall and people would come in and start to draw. One of the projects was displayed at the 18th Street Art Center in Santa Monica, CA.

I had a really great time visiting Bemis and meeting such amazing artists making a difference and doing such great work.
