Celebrating Gay Pride Month

If you didn't know, this past month was dedicated to the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) community in celebrating Gay Pride Month!

One of the things I love about Pride month is learning about the history and the impact that the gay community has made and continues to make today. A person that comes to mind whenever I think about this event is Harvey Milk. He was a gay rights activist and community leader who became one of the first openly gay individuals to be elected for office in the United States. His words of hope, support, justice, and equality are still remembered today in the fight for equality.

This day is also celebrated with numerous parades, parties, workshops, and even concerts. You can see the support, peace, and love all around. People wave the rainbow flag that signifies harmony, love, art, & spirit making it welcoming to newcomers.

I attended both a parade and a festival held in Council Bluffs and in Omaha. Here are a few photos!
